Winemakers in Ramona have much to be proud of — including a number of recent awards won at the Eisenman Wine Competition held in June.
The Lum Eisenman Wine Competition was created to give individual winemakers constructive feedback on their techniques and results to improve winemaking throughout Ramona valley.
Best of show and double gold awards went to Ramona Ranch Vineyard and Winery for its Sangiovese Reserve 2012. Winemaker Micole Moore accepted the award.
In Ramona valley, awards were presented to Crystal Hill for the Stone Lake Merlot 2016; Hatfield Creek Vineyards & Winery for the Estate Zinfandel 2016; Hellanback Ranch & Vineyards for the Sauvignon Blanc 2016; and Ramona Ranch Vineyard and Winery for the Sangiovese Reserve 2012, Twilight 2012, Viognier 2012 and Petite Sirah 2012.
Gold awards in San Diego County grew from a total of five in 2014, to a record number of 22 this year, including five double gold medals designated when an entire four-judge panel agrees the wine to be of gold quality.
The wines were tasted by eight experienced judges in a double-blind tasting.
Bill Schweitzer, president of the Ramona Valley Vineyard Association (RVVA), said, "Our wines keep getting better and better!”
