South Jersey wineries won big at the annual New Jersey Wine Competition, organized by the Garden State Wine Growers Association. Of the 21 New Jersey wineries competing, Plagido’s Winery of Hammonton came out on top, taking home the distinction of Winery of the Year for its second consecutive year.

Plagido’s also received eight medals, including a gold medal for its non-vintage Blackberry Vigoroso, silver medals for the 2015 Cab Franc, 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, non-vintage Concetta’s Casalinga and 2015 Cour d’Est, and bronze medals for its non-vintage Chambourcin, 2015 Cab Franc/Merlot and non-vintage Niagara.

Another South Jersey Winery, Sharrott of Blue Anchor, won the Governor’s Cup for Best Dessert Wine and Best Hybrid Wine for its 2013 Wicked Port.

“What an honor it is to win this award two straight years,” said Ollie Tomasello of Plagido’s Winery. “This is certainly a validation of all the hard work and dedication by our family and staff to develop exceptional wine here at Plagido’s Winery that is enjoyed by our customers.
