Three Loudoun breweries take home medals at Virginia Craft Beer Cup
Old Ox Brewery, Lost Rhino Brewing Co. and Crooked Run Brewing all took home medals at The Virginia Craft Brewers Guild 2017.
Old Ox Brewery, Lost Rhino Brewing Co. and Crooked Run Brewing all took home medals at The Virginia Craft Brewers Guild 2017 Virginia Craft Beer Cup awards ceremony earlier this month in Richmond, where they competed against 237 other brewers and a total of 356 beers in 24 categories.
Crooked Run Brewing, originally established in Leesburg and recently expanded to Sterling, won silver in the dark British ale category with their Dulce de Leche brew, a dark stout with vanilla and caramel flavor notes. After receiving the award, Crooked Run announced on their Facebook page that Dulce de Leche will be returning to their tap room for the brewery’s fourth anniversary on June 22. They are also working on a new variant called Dolce Vita—a bourbon barrel-aged version with coffee.
Lost Rhino Brewing Co. of Ashburn took gold in the Czech Lager category with their Rhino Chasers Pilsner, a golden lager that has a hoppy bitterness and a little citrus flavor. The beer took silver in the same category last year.
Old Ox Brewery, also from Ashburn, took both gold in the American Porter and Stout category for the second year in a row, and silver Best in Show.
