The fourth Floyd has arrived. His name is Mikkeller.

Three Floyds and Danish brewer Mikkel Borg Bjergso, founder of the renowned Mikkeller beer brand, are teaming up for a new operation in the U.S., WarPigs Brewing, which will launch in Chicago this week.

WarPigs will begin with three beers on draft and in 12-ounce cans: Lazurite IPA, Salmon Pants Lager and Foggy Geezer Hazy IPA (a nod to the hottest style going in craft beer right now).

The first kegs of Lazurite IPA will be tapped at the WarPigs Brewing launch party at Emporium Arcade Bar’s Wicker Park location (1366 N. Milwaukee Ave.) on Friday at 6 p.m. The lager and Hazy IPA will be available on draft by the end of June and in cans by September.

Because Three Floyds’s Munster, Ind., brewery is at production capacity, WarPigs is being made under contract at Great Central Brewing Co. in Chicago and Wisconsin Brewing Co. in Verona, Wis. Three Floyds founder Nick Floyd and brewmaster Chris Boggess are overseeing production.

Three Floyds and Mikkeller joined forces in 2015 to open a WarPigs brewpub in Copenhagen. All three beers coming to the U.S. have previously been available there.

Asked whether a WarPigs brewpub could open in Chicago, a brewery spokeswoman said, "It could happen."

WarPigs Brewing will be distributed in and around Chicago by Windy City Distributing, which also distributes Three Floyds and dozens of other top craft beers. WarPigs is also looking to distribute in Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.
